BOTHELL, wash .– (COMMERCIAL THREAD) –The MolinaCares agreement (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Washington, launched The MolinaCares Behavioral Health Initiative – a philanthropic initiative to expand access to behavioral health across Washington.
âDeveloping and improving the behavioral health workforce in our state is a group effort,â said Sue Birch, director of the Washington State Health Care Authority. âThe MolinaCares initiative will be an important catalyst in helping to ensure that Washington residents have access to high quality comprehensive and equitable care. ”
As part of this initiative, MolinaCares is funding the University of Washington School of Nursing (UW SoN) to assist in the development and implementation of a Primary family and psychiatric care curriculum for nurse practitioners.
âNurse practitioners play a critical role in identifying and responding to behavioral health needs in our community,â said Azita Emami, Executive Dean of UW SoN. âBuilding an education and training base for our frontline workforce is an important step in meeting the need for more mental health resources in Washington. We are excited to partner with MolinaCares to integrate this essential program and ensure our nurses are best equipped to identify and treat the early signs of behavioral health issues in primary care populations.
MolinaCares also collaborates with Health Compass to support the Broadway Campus Redevelopment Project to provide housing as well as intensive inpatient and outpatient behavioral health treatment in Everett.
The MolinaCares Behavioral Health Initiative will also focus on the behavioral health needs of young people by creating an exclusive partnership with the SPARK Peer Learning Center to sponsor a six-week training program in behavioral health peer counseling. .
MolinaCares is also funding two Excelsior Well-being programs. The first program, MEET Excelsior, serves youth in need of behavioral health treatment by connecting them with needed resources, including social determinants of health and peer support. The second, the Excelsior Equity Scholarship Program, funds educational opportunities for black and Indigenous people of color enrolled in graduate programs in education, criminal justice, and health care. .
Finally, this initiative makes it possible to finance Seattle Children’s Hospital RUBI program, which gives parents and caregivers evidence-based training on how to reduce challenging behaviors in children with autism spectrum disorders and help improve life skills.
âThis initiative comes at a critical time when the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated and increased behavioral health needs in our communities,â said Dr. Jay Fathi, plan chair for Molina Healthcare of Washington. âWe are proud to partner with organizations across Washington to address the behavioral health challenges facing many Washingtonians. ”
