Suspect in Mad River Hospital bomb threat known for ‘behavioral health’ issues, Arcata police say; No real threat to the hospital | Lost Coast Outpost




Arcata Police Department press release:

On 10/08/2022 at approximately 11:57 a.m., Arcata Police Department officers responded to Mad River Community Hospital following a bomb threat report.

While responding to secure the hospital, which had been placed on lockdown per their protocol, Arcata Communications was able to quickly identify the caller. The caller is known to the Arcata Police Department through prior contact with them, which consisted of behavioral health assistance. Due to these prior contacts with Arcata police officers, it was quickly determined that there was no threat to the hospital or the community.

Once there, the hospital duty supervisor was contacted, informed of the situation and they canceled the confinement.

APD officers, assisted by a Cal Poly Police Department officer, who also had contact with the subject, responded to their residence to perform a wellness check and assist with any health crises mental they might encounter. Officers made multiple attempts to contact and provide assistance to the subject, but did not leave their residence or communicate with officers.

The Arcata Police Department Community Outreach Team is following up with social service organizations in the area to continue to provide the community member with any assistance they need.
